Core drilling was done in the arkose breccias  on the western side of the collapse caldera.  The first hole was in breccia comprised of a wide variety of rock types including quartz and jasperoid.  Hole one was drilled to 48 feet.  A second is complete to 50 feet, and a third to 46. An assay at the collar of hole #2 was .02 opt Au.   A fourth has been drilled to 50 feet and was intended to cross the jasperoid beds.  Although cannot be shown in a photo, Core from holes 1 and 2 and 4 showed a  significant amount of velvet red color when lamped with short wave UV. Only one mineral is known to have this property, adularia.



This piece of core is from 11 feet. The feldspar clasts on the right flash perfect twinning planes when turned in flat light.

Hole 2 was very tough drilling in the upper portions, but finally yielded better recovery in the lower half.


Hole 3 core had little of the velvet red when lamped with UV. However, the core had more chlorite alteration of the matrix than the first 2 holes,

Hole 4 crosscut some of the Arkose-hosted jasperoid beds.
